When you’re a busy woman and an entrepreneur, you have to get comfortable with things being a little bit undone.

But at the same time, you don’t want to just be opening a new tab on the computer all the time and not closing any.

So one of the things I talk to people about a lot is how do you want to feel at the end of a work day?

In a recent session with my client Deven, I asked her this question.

She said,

I want to feel accomplished. I understand that I’m not going to feel super accomplished every day, but I would like to feel like I’ve crossed at least 5 of the 500 items on my to do list off. In my industry, it takes time for things to really develop. I understand I’m not going to have boxes checked off every day, but I would like to just feel better.

As a business coach, “working too hard” is a common complaint I hear. Often women request that they want to work smarter not work harder, but they actually get a lot of their identity from how hard they work.

Deven had even texted me the previous weekend “I’m exhausted but I’m hustling.”

Sometimes we wrap a lot of our identity in be a grinder. And a lot of what coaching is is identifying when we say one thing, but we do another thing. My job as a coach is always to call out the thing that’s out of integrity.
