As you go to find a marketing method that you really enjoy and feel confident with, you’re going to have to stretch yourself a little bit.
Katie DePaola, CEO and Founder of IGC, has taught clients and coach training students this for years now, and people always laugh, but then they do it and it works, so they stop laughing.
Do mirror work
Sit in front of a mirror, sometimes we’ll do it while we’re doing makeup in the morning, and talk through the things you want to be saying about your business, your new projects, and your bigger purpose.
If you have a coffee date, and you’re a little nervous because this is a new part of your business or a completely new business, talk it through in the mirror!
Right out loud, say “Hey Josie, this is what I want to talk to you about,” and, “I’m launching this new product….”
You’re going to feel corny doing it at first, but it really, really helps you gain confidence.
Plus it helps you get out all the little mistakes and funky parts that needed to go. Practice makes perfect. Or, at least practice makes better.
We also recommend that you record yourself and then listen to it.
Record yourself in the Voice Memo app on your smart phone talking about what you’re up to and what you’re doing. Before you have your first meeting, get on video, or get on the phone, hearing yourself and seeing yourself is going to be so important.
One of Olivia Chapman’s, COO and Co-Founder, very first clients came from talking about her new coaching business in a dog park. She was talking to people she already knew and was connected to in some way. They already liked her. They already trusted her. And it was a really easy yes for them to say, “Sure, I’ll take you up on that sample session.” That was the first marketing method that really worked for her as a new coach and a small business owner.
Then, talk about it consistently.
The key to good marketing is choosing that thing that you love or that you’re willing to do, and then doing it regularly. That’s how you continue to build an audience and you continue to build trust.
If you want results that other people don’t have, you have to be willing to do what other people aren’t willing to do. That’s just how it works.
You want to be loud.
You want to be proud.
You want to say the thing that other people aren’t willing to say.
That’s how you really stand out.
